B7350 VISTA WB STAIN BASE
B7350 is a waterborne, spray and wipe stain base designed to be applied directly to bare
wood. It has been specifically formulated to be used in conjunction with 896 Series
Colourants and/or Nerosol Dye Concentrates. It is designed to be overcoated with
AV Aquavar Clear Topcoat Series to achieve a high quality, waterborne finishing system.

REDUCTION AND CLEAN-UP:
Reduction is not normally required
if necessary for a particular application, reduce with up to 5% water
clean equipment / containers with water immediately after use
follow water wash with an alcohol / water rinse
COLOUR DEVELOPMENT:
add 0 to 10% 896 Series Colourants
add 0 to 3% Nerosol Dye Concentrates
mix all ingredients thoroughly prior to spray and wipe applications

TYPICAL COVERAGE:
Varies according to colourant loading, wood type and desired appearance
END-USER DIRECTIONS:
Colour Development:
add up to 10% (wt.) of 896 Series Colourants
add up to 3% (wt.) Nerosol Dye Concentrates
add up to 5% (wt.) of water if required for specific application
thoroughly mix final formulation prior to spray application
Finishing Schedule:
wood surface should be clean, dry and free from any oil or grease
wood should be sanded with 120 to 180 open grit sand paper and wiped with a tack rag
just prior to stain application
B7350 should be sprayed under low pressure <30 psi
spray wood surface with a full wet coat of stain and wipe off excess with a dry rag
allow stain to dry a minimum of 1 hour prior to overcoating
B7350 has been designed to be overcoated with Katilac s AV Aquavar Clear Topcoat
Series
**Note: it can also be overcoated with selected solvent borne topcoats. Please contact a Katilac
Tech Service Representative for specific recommendations
Pre-Stain / Shader Application:
in order to achieve deeper colours or to avoid stain blotching on various woods a prestain
may be made from B7350
reduce the fully formulated stain with equal parts of water
**Note: further reduction with water may be necessary for certain applications
DO NOT exceed 1 part stain to 2 parts water
spray pre-stain over entire wood surface to create a uniform appearance
dry pre-stain for a minimum of 1 hour
proceed with normal application of B7350
The above pre-stain formulation may also be used as a shader/toner coat after the normal
staining operation

The Aquavar Clear Topcoat Series is a line of self cross-linking waterborne, acrylic
hybrid wood coatings. They are water-white, non-yellowing, non-flammable, low VOC,
HAPs-Free, self-sealing coatings that are specifically designed for high demand interior
wood finishing.

Surface Preparation / Colouring:

moisture content of wood should be 7% to 9%
stains, colour coats, glazes etc. should be dried and applied according to manufacture s
directions
multi-step colourant systems should be avoided unless they are thoroughly tested for
adhesion and compatibility
all colour systems should be examined for colour fastness / fade resistance prior to use
for best results use Katilac s waterborne stains and toners

Application:
apply full uniform coats
AV Aquavar Clear Topcoat Series is designed to be used in a self-sealing application
each coat should be applied at a rate of 3 to 4 mils wet
a normal finishing system consists of a sealer coat and 1 coat of topcoat
total film thickness of the finished system should not exceed 4 dry mils
coating should be thoroughly dried and sanded smooth between coats
it is recommended that the finished item be conditioned for 24 hours at room temperature
prior to stacking and packing

Surface Preparation & Finishing of MDF:
MDF surface should be clean, dry and free from any oil or grease
pre-sanding of the surface with 150 to 180 grit paper is recommended to improve
adhesion and smoothness
seal routed areas and edges with AV Aquavar Clear Series applied at 3 to 5 mils wet
dry 30 to 60 minutes at room temperature and sand coated areas smooth with 240 to 320
grit paper
prime entire surface with AP14 Aquasurf Pigmented Primer at 3 to 4 mils wet
dry 30 to 60 minutes at room temperature and sand the entire surface with 240 to 400 grit
paper
it is critical that all surfaces are well sanded (within 8 hours of re-coating) in order to
promote good adhesion between coats
apply a second coat of AP14 Aquasurf Pigmented Primer at 4 to 5 mils wet
dry for 30 to 60 minutes and sand smooth with 320 to 400 grit paper

**NOTE: it is recommended to finish MDF with:
either:
2 coats of AP14 Aquasurf Pigmented Primer followed by 1 coat of AW Aquavar White
Pigmented Topcoat

1 coat of AP14 Aquasurf Pigmented Primer followed by 2 coats of AW Aquavar White
Pigmented Topcoat
apply a full even coat (4 to 5 mils) of AW Aquavar White Pigmented Topcoat
dry 1 to 2 hours at room temperature before handling
dry a minimum of 24 hours at room temperature prior to stacking and packing
**NOTE: total film build (primer/topcoat) should not exceed 5 mils dry
